Discover Alberta's Path to Permanent Residency: The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program

ree

The Wild Rose Country, known for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant communities, might soon become your new home through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). Whether you're a skilled worker looking to fill a high-demand position or an entrepreneur ready to launch a business, this program could be your gateway to permanent residency in Alberta. Here’s everything you need to know.

What is the AAIP?

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is an initiative designed to nominate individuals who can contribute to Alberta’s economy and communities. This program, which is a collaborative effort between the Alberta provincial government and the Canadian federal government, offers various streams for both workers and entrepreneurs. Successful nominees, along with their families, can apply for permanent residency, with the final decision made by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Streams for Workers

The AAIP includes several streams tailored to meet the province's labor needs, particularly in sectors facing shortages. The AAIP has four streams for workers:

Alberta Opportunity Stream: This stream is tailored for those already working in Alberta under a valid work permit in an eligible occupation.

Alberta Express Entry Stream: Through this stream, Alberta nominates candidates from the federal Express Entry pool who possess skills in high-demand occupations.

Tourism and Hospitality Stream: This stream is focused on attracting workers to Alberta’s vital tourism and hospitality sector.

Rural Renewal Stream: This stream aims to bring skilled workers to rural areas of Alberta to support local economic growth.

However, the target for the AAIP pool of applications for the Alberta Opportunity Stream, Tourism and Hospitality Stream, and Rural Renewal Stream has been met. Therefore, applications in these streams are currently paused and new applications will be processed by the next acceptance dates. Please visit the AAIP page to learn more on this.

The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows the province to select candidates from the federal Express Entry pool who have the skills and experience in high-demand occupations. Similarly, the Alberta Opportunity Stream is designed for workers who are already in Alberta and have a valid work permit in an eligible occupation. If you're a healthcare professional, tech specialist, or involved in agriculture or construction, there are expedited pathways under the Dedicated Health Care Pathway and the Accelerated Tech Pathway.

Streams for Entrepreneurs

If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, Alberta offers several opportunities to establish or take over a business:

Rural Entrepreneur Stream: This stream targets those who want to start or buy a business in rural Alberta, contributing to the economic development of these communities.

Graduate Entrepreneur Stream: Designed for international graduates from Alberta’s post-secondary institutions, this stream supports those looking to start a business in the province.

Farm Stream: Tailored for individuals with farm management experience, this stream supports those who want to start or take over a farming operation in Alberta.

Foreign Graduate Entrepreneur Stream: This stream is aimed at internationally educated graduates who want to launch innovative businesses in Alberta.

The Rural Entrepreneur Stream, for example, targets those interested in starting a business in rural Alberta, contributing to the economic growth of these communities. The Graduate Entrepreneur Stream is aimed at international graduates from Alberta's post-secondary institutions who wish to start a business in the province. Meanwhile, the Farm Stream is tailored for individuals with farm management experience and financial resources who want to start or take over a farming operation in Alberta.
